About cleverbit.org

Cleverbit.org is a site I wrote myself using PHP and MySQL. I designed as a place to store information about my many knitting projects as well as my blog. I wanted to be able to group the entries on my website based on entry content and so I've adopted the notion of notebooks, which can have start and end dates, and in which I record information about specific projects or trips rather than having them all jumbled up in one large blog. Of course I, like most bloggers, have the occasional urge for a good rant so I also have a few general purpose notebooks which don't really have end dates and which I post to on a slightly less frequent basis.

I've tried several frameworks but the seem to be either so general that it is almost as much work to construct a site using the framework as if I wrote it myself, or they are too specific to allow me to organize things the way I want. So, the current incarnation of cleverbit.org is streamlined to allow me to be organized with the categorization of my content without imposing to much navigational complexity on the user. I've separated my code into bean like objects with html formatting and mysql database access code in its own classes and aside from some issues with dates (and what programmer doesn't have the occasional timestamp/timezone/datetime frustration) I'm happy with how its working so far.

If, despite all my reorganizational efforts you still prefer to view my site as an RSS feed I have both a general and a project specific feed. In the future I hope to add more features to my blog including some grammar/vocabulary games and possibly some voting on random topics but as I currently have 2 or 3 visitors voting is a less high priority.

I've also recently relocated my website to Dream Host which means Cleverbit.org is now green :) Green Web Hosting! This site hosted by DreamHost.

About me

I do find it rather silly to attempt to summarize oneself with either a paragraph of text or a list of items one could fit in a shoebox as I was often encouraged to do in school but I will say that I'm a programmer by day and a knitter by night; if I watch tv for too long without anything to distract me I fall asleep; I can't eat nearly as many gummy bears in one weekend as I could when I was 13 but I probably drink an equal amount by weight of tea; I have a cat but sadly she is trapped on the other side of the ocean; I have a husband who is fortunately on the same side of the ocean that I am; and I really like semicolons because since I don't exactly know their true purpose I feel they empower me to string togeher fragmets of thought without the need for other pesky puncuation such as commas, periods and especially elipsis which wind me up as only a trailing thought with no conclusion really can.
