Dr Who (the recent tv series) is pleasant to watch in the evening when you are not thinking to hard and you just want to be entertained without to much violence or sex and you don't want to have to think to hard. The writers do humorous and silly quite well, they are fair at lighthearted romance and flirting and are rather abysmal and anything serious and dramatic. Season 1 had quite an upsetting ending but season 2 seems to be mostly back on track, although we did manage to accidentally start season 3 before season 2 thanks to someone who shall remain nameless and have some ideas about what is to come.

This is a British sci fi series from the 90's (I think). It has the same last minute feel to it that much of the older British TV I've seen does - as in they wait till the last minute to write the script and start the filming and it feels a bit more like film school homework than proper tv. The characters are likable enough and the writers are clearly excited about the future of technology with super computers and cars that drive themselves and personal sized nuclear reactors but the dialog is a bit lacking and the plot only works on a cursory glance - start thinking too hard and it falls apart. However if you're feeling nostalgic for some of those great shows you used to watch as a kid like knight rider and MacGyver but you don't want to ruin the memory by actually watching them again Bugs might just fit the bill.

So I was spinning some yarn the other day and Kim and I were sharing a bit of chocolate as we sometimes do and he broke off a piece and handed it to me and then broke a piece off for himself and I happened to look up right as he was putting it in his mouth and his was twice as big as mine! So I said
"Hey, you have more than me!"
"Yes I always eat more than you, you never noticed?"

Well I finally finished my first batch of yarn. It's about 200 grams of Blue Faced Leicester that is un-dyed and has been turned into combed tops. It is really soft and moderately 'sticky' and pretty easy to spin. It took me a while to get the feel of working with it since I was trying to spin using a woolen method and combed tops work much better for producing a worsted yarn. But now that I'm getting the hang of it I'm starting to really like spinning So anyway I spun it up with my spinning wheel and plied it and soaked it and hung it up to dry.

It was hard to get the amount of twist right, most of this yarn is either over or under spun and it is a bit uneven which I'm sure will look really great if I can only find a good pattern.

I did try using my drop spindle first but it didn't really work out. I think I'll save that for when I want to make a fatter yarn or for my trips later this summer when I won't be able to take my spinning wheel with me.

This is my second attempt at spinning. It's pre-dyed merino wool (pre died as in before my purchasing it, not pre being removed from the sheep). I'm spinning it using a worsted method which means that its producing a smooth, not too fuzzy or fluffy yarn. I'm planning to ply it and although its going much better than my first try I'm sure I'm sill over spinning some parts. The tops are quite soft although not quite as soft as the BFL I tried before. The dye is really even (think commercially dyed), I'm planning to stick with natural roving in the future as I really want to try hand painting the roving and then spinning it. Although I'll need to get some dye before I can try that.

Well these socks are finished. I'm not thrilled with how they turned out; I wish I had just picked a simple rib rather than a fancy one, however they do have some nice texture and they are quite cushiony and they fit like a glove, er like a sock actually.

You'll notice that the stripes don't like up but before you get too excited I like them that way and I can't really be bothered to unravel 10s or 100s of yards to make them line up.

This movie inspired me to start reviewing stuff on my blog because I was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting a silly comedy full of sexually inspired jokes with a bit of slapstick thrown in for good measure and instead it was amusing and well acted and interesting. Kim would not approve of me giving away the plot in my review, and it is true that it's not really so much a review as a plot summary when you summarize a plot rather than reviewing so I won't give much away except to say that it is about a man who starts to hear a voice narrating his life; if you're interested watch the trailer, it gives a pretty fair representation of the movie.
