This is a birthday scarf for my dad but it's a bit past his birthday. Yes, I realize there is a hole but it's a keyhole scarf so it's ok. This scarf is taking much longer than I expected but I'm finally past the halfway point.

I've been trying to make these socks using the toe up method but I've already made the heel twice and it looks like I'm going to have to rip it out again because the sock is still too long. I also have been thinking that they would be better on size 1 needles so I think I might rip them all the way out and have another go. I'm not sure if I will use the toe up or top down method though.

This vest is knit in the round all as one piece which, to be honest, always seems like a bad idea right up until I finally get to the place where I would have to do the seeming. The rows are extra long since I'm doing both halves at once and its a bit tricky keeping track of the start of the rows. On the other hand it's all knitting and not much purling which does make things a bit quicker.

My friend and I are making the same vest - we're having our own private knit-along. You can read about her progress here.

I'm just finishing up a knitting weekend with my friend Carolyn. We've eaten lots of junk food and watched lots of movies (plus some season 1 McGyver) and started lots of projects. Actually, in total I only started 3 new projects and I finished 1 of them. Of course I already had a few going which brings my total up to just a few more than a few. I got to try out the knitpicks harmony needles and I really liked them. I'm definitely going to be putting those on my Christmas list.

Sadly for my blog nothing particularly blog worthy happened this weekend. I almost knitted the two halves of my cardigan together backwards and of course dyeing yarn in my mothers kitchen was a bit of a blog worthy disaster waiting to happen but alas, all crises were averted.

I've decided to take the plunge and migrate my website to jsp. I'm going to be doing lots of re-writing of the back end and I'm considering trying out a JavaScript framework. My current plan is to log my changes here but not roll out the changes to the public until I'm finished so you can be wowed (is that really a word?) all at once.

Despite not getting the color I originally envisioned I decided it was time to go ahead and wind it and get on with the knitting.

Friday we arrived and experienced the Hungarian queuing system which appears to be: allow one busload of people into the immigration office and then (presumably in order to keep the lines short) don't allow anyone else of the bus until the immigration office is completely empty. Not that we took a bus to Hungary, it was just a quick trip from the plane to the terminal. Well, more short in distance than quick in time. Anyway, we took the regular city bus into town and then hopped a subway to our hotel. Interesting fact: Hungary has the oldest subway in Continental Europe. Then we went looking for food and sadly ended up eating pizza at a touristy restaurant but we had really good pizza and we were really hungry. We also wandered around town trying to figure out how to get money out of the atm's - a task which is a tad difficult when you have a limit on how much cash you can withdraw at one time and you don't know the correct exchange rate :).
