I got the pattern for this vest from a Knit.1 magazine but in the magazine it was solid with the pi symbol on the front and I decided to make it striped instead.  I used circular needles so that I could use whatever color I wanted for any number of rows (rather than only being able to use yarns that were on the same side I was ready to knit from as you would need to do with straight needles).  In order to decide what color to knit with I flipped the coin with a color changing bias, The algorithm I used was:

if (flip 1 == heads) use least recently used color
else if (flip 2 == heads) use second least recently used color
else stay with current color

Anyway, I used woolease for this project so even though I took the photo in the summer I plan to wear this as a winter or fall weather item.

Front is finished, back is finished up to armholes, so far no other mishaps.

fancy yarn

I splurged on the yarn for this project because I had a gift certificate burning a hole in my pocket.  The main yarns are mercerized cotton with some other fancy and starkly yarns thrown in.  The pattern is from a book called 'Pretty Knits' from a yarn shop in London and it is clear from their choices that they believe in splurging for yarn once in a while (or perhaps even all the time).

slightly smaller gague

The pattern called for this drop sleeve sweater to be 38 inches  for a 33 inch bust but my guage is a little smaller so I think my sweater will be more like 36.  It has a boat neck and I think it will look good a bit loose.  I'm carying the yarns up the side of the sweater rather than cutting them at the end of each row so I'm not sure how that is going to work when I do the seaming.  Also I changed the stripe pattern to use the ribbon yarn less frequently and some of the others more but I think I kept most of the ratios the same to make sure I don't run out of yarn.

This project is going well.  I modified how the increases were done when I was starting out and I'm going to modify the decreases to sort of match hopefully now that I've worked my way across to the other arm.  I'm almost done the top section so soon I'll be ready to pick up and knit the body section for working in the round.  The lace pattern is a tad confusing since for most of the time I have been working on this project I've been starting in the midlle of the pattern but hopefully when I switch to working in the round that will be fixed.  Also I'm not wild about the bamboo yarn, it has a tendency to split, but it is soft, especially compared to the inexpensive cotton I'm using for my summer raglan project.

almost a cardigan

I didn't like how the shrug was going so I ripped it out and started a comfy looking cardigan but the gauge wasn't coming out right and then I realized that I might not have enough yarn.  This is more of a sock or lace yarn than a whole cardigan sort of yarn.

lace wrap

I think this is going to work out fine as a lace wrap although I think I might end up with quite a large ruffle along the endge since I just realized that I have 4 balls of this yarn and the first 2(of 5) pattern repeats hasn't even used up the first.  It is a triangle though so maybe i just need to get going.
