Read more in notebook: blue spun something
This just arrived in the mail with the natural Gotland. Its Corriedale and it is dyed 'grey', 'indigo', and 'ice'. I want to try mixing the colors as I spin and then possibly make a two ply. It's a bit tricky to spin in the living room now and the days are getting shorter and the light isn't very good in here at the moment so I'm not sure when I'll actually get started.

Read more in notebook: grey gotland something
This just arrived in the mail recently. It's natural Gotland wool and I'm excited to try spinning it. I took two photos because I normally don't like what the flash does but this wool has a sort of natural shininess to it that I was trying to show. I ordered this one as tops rather than raw fleece because after I spent so much time carding the last batch of raw fleece I wanted something a bit cleaner and less laborious

Read more in notebook: bulky hooded pullover
This is the hooded pullover from Vogue Fall 2008.
I started this project because I've had the yarn for a while and I wanted to work on something a bit quicker than all my other fingering weight projects but this one is a bit tough to work so I find I have to take so many breaks that it doesn't actually seem to be going quite so fast as I hoped. I've done the body and started one of the sleeves, the only modification I've made so far is to extend the ribbing bit on the sleeve a bit.

I started this hat this weekend when I was knitting at a friends' flat because it is getting cold here and my ears are cold on the way to work. I decided to make it out of sock yarn to try to get maximum wind protection for my ears without it being to hot although it is going quite slowly. I have about 4 inches so far and I just switched to stocking net although I haven't quite decided if I want to keep the stripes the same or maybe make them wider or narrower for the stocking net bit.

Read more in notebook: one-cable-cardigan for Kim
I modified the pattern by making it a bit smaller and I continued the cable up the back rather than just up the front. This is the entire body, there are no side seams. This is quite a bulky yarn so I think the fewer seams the better. I'm still worried about running out of yarn though so I think I might stop working on the body and start on the arms next so I can make the body a bit shorter if it looks like I'm running low on yarn.

Read more in notebook: entertainment reviews
It's been a while since I reviewed one of Kim's random dvd selections but the other night we watched one called 'Walkabout' about two English kids whose dad abandons them in the Australian wilderness. They are left to fend for themselves, a job they are not particularly good at until they meet up with an Aboriginal teenagish looking young man who takes care of them for a while. While this was not the worst movie we've watched it certainly wasn't my favorite either. Sprinkled throughout the movie were artistic interpretations of the scenes in the form of animal images. For example as the kids were walking there were lots of shots of scary dessert creatures, while the Aborigine was hunting for food so that they could stay alive footage of animals being shot by hunters presumably for sport was spliced throughout the sceene, etc. It was sort of interesting but also a tad slow moving and the bit right before the ending didn't really make much sense to me. Possibly this was meant to be the most clever bit of the whole thing. Also the teenage English girl had some truly annoying moment like when she was try to ask, or really demand water and she just kept saying "we want water, I don't know how I can make it more simple than that" in an increasingly loud voice, as if that was going to make their new found friend suddenly speak English. A quick search online suggests that as with most of the 'cult movies' aka movies-that-only-fanatics-love I've somehow missed the greater artistic point.

As you can see I've picked a pattern for this yarn. It's the one-cable-cardigan which I found on Ravelry.com. Here is the ravelry link and here is a link to the blog of the designer. I think I'll probably add a few large buttons down the front but no need to worry about that for the moment since I'm not sure if I have quite enough yarn. Kim is a bit smaller than the smallest size though so I'm hoping if I make it comfortable but not baggy I'll have enough. Oh and here are a few photos of the finished yarn and one of the gauge square which actually looks a bit better than I was expecting.
